The Biloxi Shuckers fell short in an opportunity to take place on Sunday night, dropping their road trip finale to the Jackson Generals 6-2.
Biloxi returns to MGM Park on Monday for a pivotal 10-game homestand trailing the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp by 0.5 games in the Southern League South.
A wild pitch with the bases loaded in the third inning scored Troy Stokes Jr. to give the Shuckers the first run of the game, but Jackson answered back with two runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning to take the lead for good. Shuckers’ reliever Forrest Snow (5-3) was pressed into starting duty, allowing four runs in 3.1 innings to take his first Double-A loss since May 5.
Ryan Atkinson (2-2) completed 5.0 innings of two-run ball to earn his second win of the season for the Generals. The only batter he couldn't solve was Tyrone Taylor, who doubled in the first, hit his first homer of the season in the fifth, and reached base all four times. Jake Gatewood collected his fourth multi-hit game over his last five tries and was 2-for-3 with a double.
Travis Hissong allowed two Jackson insurance runs over 2.2 innings, but Taylor Williams and Quintin Torres-Costa each delivered shutout frames for the Shuckers. Unfortunately, Jackson's bullpen was just as effective and Biloxi was unable to mount a late rally.
The Shuckers open up their final homestand of the season on Monday night as Corbin Burnes faces off against Mobile's Jesus Castillo for a 6:35 pm start.
