Eight Coast basketball standouts were selected to compete in either the Mississippi/Alabama All-Star game or the North/South contest.
Two of the Coast’s top standouts — St. Martin’s Daphane White and Chyna Allen of Harrison Central — were both picked for the Mississippi-Alabama Girls’ All-Star game. The junior contest, part of a doubleheader, will be held March 16 at Mississippi College.
White, last year’s Sun Herald’s girls basketball player of the year, signed with Mississippi State in November.
The other six players made the South rosters in the state All-Star game, which will be played on March 23 at Mississippi College. East Central coach Wes Brewer will coach the South Girls’ All-Stars in the North/South Game.
“It’s an honor to have the opportunity to coach these outstanding young ladies,” Brewer said. “Miller and McGee are both great players. I look forward to coaching in the game.”
East Central’s Sania Wells, Shylia McGee of Biloxi and Moss Point’s Brieanna Miller are on the Girls’ South roster. Wells holds scholarship offers from LSU, Auburn, Boston University, Southern Miss, South Alabama and Louisiana Tech.
Representing the South Boys are D’yasmond Booker of Pascagoula, Derick Hall of Gulfport and Biloxi’s Dontavius Proby. Hall also has a football scholarship offer from Ole Miss.
