East Central linebacker Avery White made one of the top defensive plays in the 52-45 victory over Poplarville to win the 4A South State championship.
The junior returned a fumble six yards for a touchdown to give the Hornets a 7-0 lead. The play was set up when Hornets linebacker Branson Davis forced a Poplarville fumble. White scooped it up and ran into the end zone.
White finished the game with 15 total tackles, eight solo. For the season, he has 186 total tackles, 99 solo.
This is White’s second Sun Herald defensive player of the week honor. He was also named Sun Herald’s defensive player of the week on Sept. 3.
