ABC “Good Morning America” host Robin Roberts, who calls Pass Christian home, will be inducted into the 2012 class of the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame.
She joins five other inductees, including former WNBA star Dawn Staley; two-time Olympic gold medalist Nikki McCray; former Old Dominion star Inge Nissen; five-time Division III national championship coach Nancy Fahey; and former South Carolina star Pam McGee.
The announcement was made Saturday.
Roberts was a star basketball player at Pass Christian High School. The 1979 graduate of Pass Christian had her jersey — No. 21 — retired at the school on Oct. 21, 1999. She went on to play basketball at Southeastern Louisiana in Hammond and graduated in 1983,

From there she began her career in television. She worked in Hattiesburg and was a sports reporter at WLOX-TV in Biloxi from 1984-86. She joined ESPN in 1990 and later became the host of ABC Wide World of Sports. Currently she is the host of “Good Morning America.’’
She has participated in numerous activities to help the Coast and her hometown.
A date for the formal induction ceremony has not been set.
Staley received the notice of her induction on the same day the WNBA recognized her as one of the league’s top 15 players of all-time.
