Good deed

I overheard a lady on my flight at the check-in counter ask the airline representative to please see if there was a military person on the flight and if there was, then to please give her first class seat to that person and she would sit in coach. Her company bought the ticket, so she did not really need to sit in first class. And, as a result, she gave her first class seat up for the soldier who was on our flight. This is a wonderful gesture by that lady and I wanted to tell her that her good deed was seen and appreciated by more than that soldier. More people should do this on flights. Those who travel first class, pay it forward and give your seat to a soldier for all of those rough days that they fight to protect our country and your freedom.

Any help?

Does anyone know of any groups, volunteers, etc., that are still helping with Katrina issues? We are in need of help elevating a modular cottage. We were denied grant elevation money and had no insurance. I have contacted many different groups and no one seems to have any funds left. We have good credit but too much debt as I lost my job and am making much less than a year ago. Any suggestions or help would be appreciated.

Hazardous conditions

As a resident of Long Beach who works in Pass Christian, I am finding it more and more difficult to get around the two towns. There are five major roads within the two cities that are closed with construction issues. Who is the mastermind behind this horrible plan? I hope we are not visited by a major hurricane during the last few days of the season. There would be absolutely no way to evacuate all of the residents. But don’t worry about calling any city officials; they will just direct you to another department.

Had their chance

I get so tired of hearing Sen. John McCain’s criticism of the President’s Afghanistan policy when he supported eight years of George Bush and Dick Cheney doing nothing, and after six years in Iraq you see now how bad Pakistan is getting. The Republicans blew it.

Patch up Pass Road

Pass Road in Gulfport is trash. There are better gravel roads in the county than this. Perhaps we could cut construction of all the new buildings and upgrade Gulfport streets. After all you can not go to the new buildings if you can’t go down the road.

Not a contest

In response to “Help for Churches” . . . maybe if all these churches didn’t build such huge, elaborate buildings they wouldn’t need help. They are popping up everywhere. Since when did churches start needing such fancy places to worship? It seems like it has become who can build the biggest and the best rather than just build a place to worship God.
