Righteous living

Secular relativism: if it feels good, looks good, tastes good, sounds good — do it. Whatever turns you on. That’s the lifestyle the world currently seems to follows. As for me, I try to live under moral absolutism: what God thinks is right as found in the God-given dogma of my Catholic Church and in God’s gift of the Bible, not what I or anyone else thinks is right. I’m not always successful, but I try to stay as close to the “God Standard” as I can get.

Thanks for the help

The wonderful Historical Archives staff at the Biloxi Library found family history records for me today. Jane and all the staff are to be commended for their caring work.

Jinx

Reggie Bush is going to be on the cover of Sports Illustrated. Wasn’t Ole Miss on the cover? The curse. The curse. Oh no. Goodbye winning season.

Broken curse?

The Sunday game in Miami should be recorded as the best game and a turning point in the Saints history. We twisted and turned on the couch for 29:58 and expected a heart-break game like all the others. But Saint Brees lifted the curse off the team with his “saintsational” play, then the team came back like never before. Somebody said the Katrina water washed up the Voodoo Queen tomb and cleaned up the curse on the team since 1967. We believe Saint Brees exorcised it last Sunday. Now please anybody tell me where we can buy the Super Bowl tickets.

Barnacles banished

What happen to the barnacles? I am now 74 and grew up on this Gulf Coast. When I was a kid there were barnacles on all the pilings and boat hulls. Now there are none. An old shrimp fisherman said he thought this was due to fertilizers but I suspect it is more than that like chemicals, pesticides, herbicides and who know what all. I thought that some of the marine research organizations were supposed to alert us to such problems. Yes, barnacles are not very important but what is next? Do we want to wait until other Gulf seafood die, because they cannot live in our polluted water? I hope not.

Traffic trouble

What a fiasco! If I went to an athletic event anywhere else and was held-up like the Gautier traffic control at our new stadium, I would not want to return to that city. Four lanes are available, but the city police choose to block three lanes and allow traffic to exit in one lane only. I was told this was for safety reasons, but the security personnel could have spread out and directed the traffic very safely.
