GULFPORT – A man who police say strangled his mother then dumped her body in the woods is back in Mississippi, officials said.
Officers are bringing Ryan Allen Abeyta, 29, to the Gulfport Police Department where he will be booked before he's taken to Harrison County jail, Capt. Neal Stachura said.
Abeyta has been in the Mobile County Metro jail since he was picked up by U.S. Marshals Service on Wednesday in Semmes, Ala.
He is charged with the murder of 56-year-old Pamela Santiago, who police say was killed in her Harmony Circle home.
Her body, dumped on a path in the woods just off River Road in an area south of Dedeaux Park, was found Tuesday by a passer-by, he said. It is about four miles from Santiago’s neighborhood.
Police issued a warrant for Abeyta early Wednesday.
Kendrick Lebontra Harper of Gulfport was arrested Thursday for alledgedly helping Abeyta remove Santiago's body from her home to the woods.
