More than 250 residents turned out this morning to bid on Mississippi cottages up for auction by the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency.
The auction on Turner Road, which began at 9 a.m., featured 180 one-, two- and three-bedroom cottages that were left over from the Mississippi Alternative Housing Program that was established after Hurricane Katrina struck in 2005. The condition of the cottages range from new to needing repairs.
MEMA public information officer Nicole Roberts said 252 people registered to bid on 180 cottages.
