An engineer with MDOT said state transportation commissioners today approved funding to make needed repairs to the drawbridge over the Intercoastal Waterway on Cowan-Lorraine Road.
Gabe Faggard, area engineer with MDOT, said there are issues with the computer system that opens the bridge by communicating with the hydraulic system.
They money will be used to upgrade the system, he said.
The bridge, named the Wilkes Bridge, has stuck open twice recently. The first time was last week, when it remained open for about three house, Faggard said. The other was this morning for two three hours.
