A portion of the pogy boat that sank after a recent accident in the Mississippi Sound is being raised this afternoon.
Sun Herald reporter Karen Nelson and photographer John Fitzhugh have been on the scene all day and will have an in-depth report later today on sunherald.com and in Monday’s print edition of the Sun Herald.
Nelson just phoned our newsroom to say the boat’s wheelhouse is out of the water and so is the very front part of the hull.
Other parts of the hull remained under water just before 3 p.m.
The goal is to eventually move the boat, which has been split in half for excavation purposes, onto a barge, get it upright and bring it in to Gulfport.
Stay tuned for more on this breaking story.
