The National Weather Service in New Orleans has issued a heat advisory for four South Mississippi counties until 6 p.m. today.
The counties include Harrison, Hancock, Jackson and Pearl River. Temperatures are expected to reach 100 degrees with a heat index of 105.
Residents are advised to stay out of the sun if possible and drink plenty of fluids. Take precautions with pets, and check on neighbors and the elderly.
The heat advisory is in effect for much of southeastern Louisiana and southwestern Mississippi as well.
