Q: how do I voice my opinion in the sound off thru e-mail and will there be somebody to check over it

Q: My husband and I are seriously thinking of moving to the Biloxi area to work in the hospitality/casino industry. However, we are finding it difficult to research salaries in the area because none of the casinos put salaries in their newspaper ads or on their websites. Why don't they provide this important information? It's like asking people to move to your town, but not giving them the price of housing. Thanks for your help.

A: This is what Jan Garner, who's in charge of our classified section told me. Many employers are looking for the qualifications and experience each potential employee brings to the business. They feel that by publishing a salary or range, it does not give them the flexibility to be as competitive of an employer in the marketplace as they desire.Submitted by MacNana from Diamondhead, MS
Q: I haven't quite figured out how to submit a "Sound Off" with your new site. Can you give me some pretty simple directions, please?

Q: Good Morning: I was just ready about a health challange going on and a heart walk in the paper today. I posted a few questions under comments but I was wondering if maybe you could answer them? I am not sure if anyone really reads or answers the comments section? 1) Is the general public able to participate in this challange? 2)How do you get invloved in the walk and/or challange? 3) Is there any study or survey to determine the cost factor in being healthy? It is very expensive!! Maybe if it where more affordable Mississippi would not rank among the lowest in the country?

A: Here's the info that ran with the story on how to get involved in the Heart Walk: About the Heart Walk What is it? Gulf Coast Start! Heart Walk is an annual awareness campaign and fundraiser for the American Heart Association's Greater Southeast Affiliate headquartered in Gulfport. This event involves Harrison, Hancock, Stone and Pearl River counties. Who can come? It's a four-mile noncompetitive walk for all ages. When is it? Oct. 4, 8:30 a.m. to noon with registration starting at 7:30 a.m. How can you join? You can show up that morning or form a team and have fundraisers in the weeks leading up to the walk. How can you raise money? Fundraisers can be individual contributions or any imaginative sales, such as car washes, yard sales, raffles. On Saturday, a team formed by Zachry Construction in DeLisle is sponsoring a car & bike show at the Historic Train Depot in Bay St. Louis, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Details: 228-604-5300; gulfcoastheartwalk.kintera.org That should answer your first two questions. As to your third, I'd argue that it's not that expensive to be healthy. Cut down your portion sizes on food to save money. The dollar menu at the fast food outlets seem cheap, but I can make peanut butter and jelly sandwiches (and lunch meat, and soup, and other things) a whole lot cheaper. Go for a walk and that costs only a good pair of shoes that you can wear out pounding the pavement.Submitted by Irene Parkinson from Imperial, NE
Q: I read that a Armed Forces Retirement Home is to reopen in Gulfport, MS in 2010. Can you provide more info on this? We evacuated here after living in Long Beach for 25 yrs and we still miss it. Thanks, I check The Sun Herald online on a daily basis and have not seen anything on this home.

A: We last reported on this in June, but Yates Construction said then the project was on budget and on schedule to be complete by July 2010. It'll be a 650,000-square foot complex with a $189 million price tag. I drive by it every day on the way to work and the cranes are sticking up all over the place back there. Last time I got a close look, the first floor's concrete guts had already been poured, so it's coming out of the ground. If you want to look at a video of the implosion of the old building, check out http://videos.sunherald.com/vmix_hosted_apps/p/media?id=1557077. We'll keep you up to date on construction as it continues.
