The Biloxi City Council today voted 5-1 not to appoint Linda Atterberry to the position of chief of police.

The lone vote for her was Clark Griffith.

Council members Lucy Denton, George Lawrence, Bill Stallworth, Tom Wall and Ed Gemmill voted against the appointment. David Fayard was absent.

Mayor A.J. Holloway said she has about 8 to 10 days left to serve as an interim chief.

Today’s decision is the second time the Council has voted not to appoint Atterberry. The first time was Sept. 1.

Holloway said he may take the issue to court, although it’s likely he’ll have to appoint another acting chief in the meantime.
