The next few weeks, we hope, will be among the most joyous in the careers of our high school graduates. We congratulate them on their accomplishment and wish them the best of luck in life.
The apparent suicide of Junior Seau, the former NFL superstar linebacker, has again raised the age-old question:
“Finding Your Roots with Henry Louis Gates Jr.” is another of the Harvard professor’s wonderful television series for PBS. This is “must-see TV” and a more than worthy sequel to three previous projects Gates has hosted about how some of us came to be what and who we are.

Shorebirds respond to the gentle moment with silence. The world seems to pause. Clocks may be ticking elsewhere, the poet notes, but not here. The shore experiences temporary peace. Soon the normality of the day will be restored; then shorebirds will fly about and will bicker once again. -- Diary, spring 2012
