First, I would like to say that I'm a lifelong Mississippian but new to the Coast.
The infrastructure here is deplorable. Why? When I moved here a few years ago, someone said that 28th Street would eventually have four lanes, but we haven’t finished three blocks in the last 18 months. At this rate, it will be 10 years getting to Canal Road, which is another one. When?
U.S. 90 and Interstate 10 are the only four-lane routes across the the county. Why don’t these contracts have time limits? We can do better, and we should demand better.
The town where I live has no four-lane streets, very few sidewalks and no bike paths, and it’s in the state that’s No. 1 in obesity. Why? I saw a lady trying to push a stroller down a major street the other day, which had no sidewalk, and it was hard to watch.
Never miss a local story.
The only politician I’ve seen trying to do anything about these issues is Mayor Gilich. There should be time limits and penalties in these contracts. Our tax dollars deserve better .
