The University of Southern Mississippi Gulf Coast Research Laboratory (GCRL) will release spotted seatrout fingerlings in Bay St. Louis later this week. They will be the first fish released in Bay St. Louis since the SPEC program began in 2005.

The release is part of the Seatrout Population Enhancement Cooperative (SPEC), a partnership among GCRL, the Mississippi Department of Marine Resources and the Coastal Conservation Association (CCA) of Mississippi. Representatives of the Bay St. Louis chapter of CCA, who helped provide the broodstock from which the fingerlings were produced, will be available.

The event takes place at 12:30 p.m. Thursday at Merlin Necais Boat Launch in Pass Christian.
