An Amber Alert sent via text message has been found to be a hoax.

About 2 p.m., a text message was received by an attorney at the Jackson County courthouse telling of an Amber Alert issued for a 3-year-old who was taken in Moss Point.

The text message included a car description and license plate number.

Moss Point Police Chief Sheila Smallman told the Sun Herald the information was not correct after she spoke with Amber Alert officials in Jackson.

Only Amber Alert issues official alerts, she said.
