Bring plants and pets inside Friday night, as below-freezing temperatures are expected across South Mississippi.
The National Weather Service in New Orleans issued a freeze warning, in effect until 8 a.m. Saturday -- for George, Stone Pearl, River Hancock, Harrison and Jackson counties.
Areas north of Interstate 10 will likely see the coldest weather, NWS said.
Because the weather has been so warm, the temperature dip will likely affect plants and other vegetation.
Pets should also sleep inside Friday night, and household water pipes should be protected.
Cold-weather shelters in Harrison County are open for Friday night only, said Harrison County Emergency Manager Ruper Lacy. Those shelters are the Gulfport Salvation Army and the multi-purpose building in D'Iberville.
