Officials: Get off the beach, now!
Officials say too many people are still lingering on South Mississippi beaches this afternoon, with Hurricane Nate’s landfall just hours away.
These people “are being urged to leave immediately,” said Mississippi Highway Patrol Capt. Johnny Poulous. “The later they wait, the more likely they put themselves in danger.”
Forecasters say Hurricane Nate could make landfall as early as 9 p.m. or 10 p.m tonight.
Evacuations have been ordered for people living in low-lying areas, and all the Coast casinos are closings in advance of the storm. Harrison, Jackson and Hancock counties will have curfews in place later tonight.
Emergency officials have been urging people to take the proper precautions for days now.
