Frank Montgomery, 83, loved to see things grow. He grew a vegetable garden for years and watched it grow, and also watched his big family grow up.
He and his wife, Mamie, had eight children. They were married for 58 years.
"Frank was a good family (man)," said Mamie Montgomery. "He was crazy about the children and made sure they had plenty to eat and that they went to school every day. He would tell them, 'Get an education.' "
Montgomery was a welder at Ingalls Shipbuilding where he retired. "He was proud of the ships he helped build at Ingalls," said his wife.
After serving his country during World War II, the Alabama native moved over to Mississippi.
"He enjoyed all the holidays with our big family," Mamie recalled. It was a big family, with 15 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.
