BILOXI -- A man being taken into custody on a misdemeanor charge head-butted an officer in the face, resulting in a felony charge, police Detective Nick Sonnier said.
David Anthony Scott was combative and resisting officer involvement when police responded to a domestic incident early Monday in the 200 block of Eisenhower Drive, Sonnier said.
Scott is accused of head-butting an officer who was trying to arrest him on a misdemeanor charge of disturbing the peace, Sonnier said.
Scott now faces a felony charge of simple assault on a law enforcement officer. The maximum penalty is five years in prison and a $1,000 fine.
The officer's injuries did not require medical attention, Sonnier said.
Scott also was arrested on a misdemeanor charge of possession of a narcotic.
Justice Court Judge Bruce Strong set bond on the felony at $25,000. The misdemeanor bonds, set by Municipal Court, total $1,007.
A city judge on Tuesday gave Scott credit for time served on the misdemeanors, the jail docket shows.
