A 21-year-old Vancleave man who was hit by a car Friday night was taken off life support at 3:30 p.m. Saturday.
Tyler Levins died at University of South Alabama Medical Center in Mobile, Mississippi Highway Patrol Cpl. Benjamin Seibert said.
Seibert said Levins was hit about 11:20 p.m. while crossing Mississippi 57 near Quave Road just north of the Coca-Cola plant. The vehicle that hit him was southbound on 57. Authorities are searching for the driver.
"We are continuing to follow down leads," he said.
Jackson County deputies were the first to arrive, and the Highway Patrol took over the investigation.
First responders stopped traffic for 30 minutes. An ambulance took Levins to Singing River Hospital in Ocean Springs. Seibert said he was then taken by helicopter to University of South Alabama Medical Center in Mobile.
