Officials are asking for the public's help to find eight teenagers wanted for questioning concerning the wildfire Saturday that burned more than 850 acres, threatened thousands of homes and forced the evacuation of the a nursing home and several neighborhoods.
Chief Michael Belton of the Central Jackson County Fire Department , the second firefighter on the scene, saw four teenagers run past him along with four more on two ATVs. They were headed west from the fire near Tapp Road.
"They either know who did it or know something about it," he said.
The fire remains under investigation by multiple agencies and those responsible for it may face criminal charges, he said.
