The City of Gulfport will be one of the stars of Friday’s Belk Bowl from Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte. And while the city won’t be scoring touchdowns or returning punts, it will have a presence.
“If you remember a few months ago, we were asking for people that wanted to be in some commercials,” said Gulfport spokesman Chris Vignes. “Well, those commercials are going to air Friday.”
Gulfport is one of the cities featured in the “Project Hometown” campaign, which “celebrates Southern cities and towns and the people that live there.” The commercials are sponsored by the bowl’s title sponsor, which has a store at Crossroads Shopping Center in Gulfport.
Other cities featured in the ads include Charlotte, Athens, Albany (Georgia) and Fairhope, Alabama.

“This is another way for Gulfport to be displayed on a national level,” Vignes said. “We were recently featured in the Lifetime movie ‘Christmas in Mississippi’ and now in series of commercials that will air on a national cable network.”
The Belk Bowl features the ACC’s Wake Forest (7-5) against Texas A&M of the SEC West. The game kicks off at noon on ESPN.
Vignes said the 30 second spots will air eight times during the game, twice per quarter.
“After the spots premiere during the Belk Bowl, a 90 second ad will be available on the Belk website and through their social media accounts,” Vignes said. “We are thrilled to get this type of exposure.”
