A man had to be airlifted to a South Alabama trauma center after the pickup truck he was driving ran off an exit ramp at Menge Avenue and I-10 and hit a parked 18-wheeler.
The accident occurred just before 6 p.m. Saturday, according to Pat Sullivan, Harrison County fire chief.
“Two people were hurt; one seriously,” Sullivan wrote in a press release. “The driver of the pickup had to be extricated and flown by Rescue 5 to a trauma center in South Alabama.”
The other injured person, Sullivan said, was transported to a local hospital.
Fire units from the Harrison County Fire Service, West Harrison, Pass Christian and CRTC (airport fire) took about 20 minutes, according to Sullivan, to cut the truck open and get the injured man out.
“AMR paramedics and the medical flight crew treated the man in his truck and on the scene before loading him up and flying him out,” Sullivan stated. “Harrison County Sheriff’s units closed the off ramp for about 30 minutes . . .”
Mississippi Highway Patrol worked the accident scene.
