Strong wind this morning is pushing sand onto U.S. 90, resulting in lane closures in some areas as police urge motorist to either avoid the area or use caution while driving.
Crews with the Mississippi Department of Transportation are working to clear the sand from the beachfront highway but the sand is piling up faster than crews can clear it, Pass Christian Police Chief John Dubuisson said this morning.
"It's blowing like crazy," Dubuisson said. "We've got units on the highway trying to slow the people down."
Police have reduced U.S. 90 traffic to one lane in some areas.
Dubuisson said motorists should also be on the lookout for the MDOT cleanup crews.
On Tuesday, he said, a motorist ran into the back of one of the MDOT trucks clearing the sand, though no injuries were reported
