The National Weather Service in New Orleans has issued a tornado watch until 10 p.m. for the lower six counties in South Mississippi.
Scattered and strong thunderstorms are expected throughout the evening in southeast Louisiana and southern Mississippi, and those conditions could produce tornadoes. The weather service said damaging winds are possible overnight.
The storms are associated with a cold front moving through the area.
There is a 90 percent chance of storms tonight, a 70 percent chance Wednesday and a 40 percent chance Wednesday night.
