Coast Red Cross sends help toward Dolly's path
The Mississippi Gulf Coast Chapter of the American Red Cross has been asked to send two volunteers to help the National Red Cross' effort in preparing citizens of Texas facing Hurricane Dolly.
Harold Boudreaux of Kiln has been assigned to manage emergency shelters. Other volunteers may follow later this week.

Patio party hopes to raise hundreds for food pantry
The Coast Young Professionals will have a fundraiser, "Partio on the Patio for the Pantry," at Clyde's at 6 p.m. Thursday to benefit the Hancock County Food Pantry.
CYP raised $600 earlier this month and hopes to top $1,000 after this week's event.
Cost is a donation for the food pantry.

Vernon Gilbert Elks will have grand opening
The Vernon Gilbert Elks Lodge #576, 636 Esters Blvd., will have its grand opening, since being damage by Hurricane Katrina, on Saturday.
Members only will celebrate from 6 to 8 p.m. with a ribbon cutting, introduction of officers and refreshments.
The lodge will be open to the public at 9 p.m. with a live DJ, giveaways and some refreshments.
The main structure of the Elks' building was damaged and the high-water mark was at least 10 feet. The ceiling and roof were destroyed, said R.L. Simpson, a member of the Elks' lodge. The structure has been remodeled.
A small lodge in the back was salvageable and that is where the Elks have been holding events and meetings, Simpson said.

GULFPORT CLIMB MICRO ENTERPRISE
will graduate first class
The International Relief and Development, US, Climb Micro Enterprise program will graduate its first class of eight tonight at 6 p.m.
The ceremony will be at IRD, 1223 30th Ave.
The nine-week climb program provides local residents with the opportunity to gain knowledge and skills required to start or expand home-based businesses.
The climb program is a response to the need for new employment models, especially since the loss of businesses from Hurricane Katrina.
This program, supported in part by the Mennonite Economic Development Associates, was founded in response to Hurricane Katrina. It provides a comprehensive set of services to low- and middle-income residents of the Gulf Coast.
Services of IRD include individualized case management, job training, micro business training and loans, housing and financial counseling, home rebuilding and mental health programs for crisis and trauma detection.
