Man jailed for failing to appear

GULFPORT — Police arrested Brandon L. Walker of Gulfport on Friday on a warrant for failing to appear in court on a stolen firearm charge.

A police spokesman said detectives saw Walker, 26, in the 4400 block of 14th Street and learned he was wanted on a warrant.

The pending charge is possession of a stolen firearm.

Walker was taken to the Harrison County jail and is held with no bond.

The jail docket shows he is also serving time in jail on a contempt-of-court conviction.

Police: Man was armed with nunchucks, burglar tools

GULFPORT — Elton Jerome Bishop of Gulfport was armed with nunchucks and in possession of burglar tools when detectives stopped him to question him Thursday, said Police Sgt. Adam Cooper.

Nunchucks are weapons made of hardwood sticks that are joined by a chain or cord.

Bishop has previous felony convictions for burglary and weapon charges, making it illegal for him to be in possession of a weapon.

Cooper said Bishop was travelling along Southward Drive and Fern Street on Friday but allegedly lied to police about his activity.

Bishop, 56, was booked at the Harrison County jail on charges of felon in possession of a weapon and possession of burglary tools.

Justice Court Judge Gene Dedeaux set bond at $20,000.

The jail docket shows Bishop is held without bond on unrelated misdemeanors.

Bishop is serving time in the county jail for old fines and contempt of court.

Long Beach man accused in break-in, assault

LONG BEACH — Police arrested Steven Guy Duffy Jr. shortly after an acquaintance reported that Duffy had broken into his apartment and assaulted him, said Detective Alan Bond.

Duffy, 31, of Pinecrest Circle in Long Beach, is charged with burglary of a dwelling and simple assault.

Bond said the break-in was reported around 11:30 p.m. Thursday at the Daughtery Road Apartments.

The injuries the victim received were not life-threatening.

Police arrested Duffy at his residence early Friday and took him to the Harrison County jail.

Justice Court Judge Gene Dedeaux set bond on the felony charge at $20,000.

Bond on the misdemeanor assault charge is $665.

Mobile woman accused of stealing a pickup

JACKSON COUNTY — A woman from Mobile has been arrested on a grand larceny charge in the case of a stolen Ford truck, Sheriff Mike Byrd said Friday.

Byrd said the truck was reported stolen from the Helena community on Sept. 10.

The vehicle was a 2008 model.

Three days later, police in Pritchard, Ala., attempted to stop the truck but the driver fled and crashed.

Police caught a juvenile passenger after a short foot chase but the driver of the stolen vehicle disappeared.

Sheriff’s investigators identified Nicole Thornsberry, 34, as the suspect.

Thornsberry was arrested on a warrant in Mobile County.

Thornsberry was taken to the Jackson County jail to await an initial appearance in County Court.

Long Beach man held on probation violation

HARRISON COUNTY — Nikia Price Rivard of Long Beach is held without bond on a probation violation after his arrest Thursday by a Harrison County deputy sheriff.

Rivard, 29, of Long Ridge Road, was on probation for a drug conviction, said Sheriff Melvin Brisolara.

He was arrested without incident at his residence.

A revocation hearing for Rivard is pending in Circuit Court.

The county jail docket shows Rivard was put on probation in October 2008.

Rivard was convicted of distributing marijuana at that time.
