A look at crime and law enforcement news from the past week:
n Biloxi resident Katie Lynn Murphy was arrested on felony charges of residential burglary, grand larceny and vehicle burglary in connection with a scam targeting elderly people in the Woolmarket area. Police said Murphy allegedly went to homes and pretended to be there for such things as to inquire about an automobile for sale and would apparently steal from the victim while they weren’t looking. Biloxi police are continuing the investigation,
n Harrison County Sheriff’s deputies arrested six people on prostitution-related charges after an undercover sting targeting escort service employees. Arrest on misdemeanor prostitution charges were Jody Michelle McKinley, Shasta Jeanneane Crowe, 21, Shatarra Monique Rodriguez, 26 and Christina Marie Wilkins. Also charged with aiding in prostitution were Timothy Daniel McAllister and Billy Warren Hewett.
n Gautier police started a search Tuesday morning for suspects in a burglary at Pure Gas station on Ladnier Road, Police believe the suspects used bricks to break out a front glass door to get inside and steal an estimated $100 in cigars and cigarettes.
n Harvill Payne Richardson Sr. was arrested and charged with murder in connection with the shooting death of Rudy Quilon, 55, a homeless man who had been living with the Richardson’s family for about six months. Biloxi police said the shooting happened after the two men allegedly got into some type of disagreement at Richardson’s home while under the influence of alcohol.
n Bay. St. Louis resident Clarence Edmond Schindler, 59, drowned after he was involved in a traffic accident that resulted in his vehicle being submerged in a sewage lagoon off Old Spanish Trail near Turner Street.
n Harrison County Sheriff’s deputies arrested seven people over a two-day period in unrelated cases involving alleged meth labs and chemicals used to manufacture meth.
n Pascagoula firefighters Tuesday night extinguished a fire at the Jackson County Youth Court, which caused smoke damage to the building. No injuries were reported. One of two youths inhaled smoke as a result, the fire inspector said, but did not require hospital attention. The fire remains under investigation.
n Dwight Cannon, 47, of Greenville was in custody on charges that he allegedly exploited money from a vulnerable adult in Ocean Springs in September.
n Jackson County Sheriff’s deputies on Tuesday arrested Leslie George of Moss Point on charges of rape and molestation. The alleged incidents occurred several years ago when the victim was 11 years old.
