n Biloxi City Council members approved a rate increase for water, sewer and garbage rates. The garbage rate has gone from $2.50 to $7.50 per month, and the base rate for water and sewer was raised by 10 cents per 1,000 gallons of both water and sewer. For water, that means rates go from $1.20 to $1.30 per 1,000 gallons for those who use 8,000 gallons or less and from $1.30 to $1.40 per 1,000 gallons for those who used more than 8,000 gallons. Sewer rates went from $2.65 to $2.75 for the use of 8,000 gallons or less and from $2.76 to $2.86 for more than 8,000 gallons. Seniors will continue to receive discounts as part of the plan. An additional $1.76 sewer surcharge is also added to repay a debt for the water and sewer infrastructure.
