Recruiting for Brandon quarterback Gardner Minshew has gotten off to a surprisingly slow start.
Alabama-Birmingham and Akron are the only Division I schools that offered the 6-foot-1 Minshew. Louisiana Tech is also interested in Minshew.
Minshew is considering the Junior college route for a year and attract more college interest, if he meets NCAA requirement for college freshmen. If a player is a full academic qualifier out of high school, he can leave the JUCO route after a season and not be required to graduate.
"Right now I've been taking to more JUCOs because they've been seeing where I'm not getting offered where they thought," Minshew told RebelGrove.com. "Mississippi JUCO is as good as any in the nation. I feel like I go there and have a good year, then I could get an opportunity after that."
"Everybody is telling me I'm between three and five on their board, and pretty much everybody I've talked to has gotten one of their top guys. It's a numbers game, it's one a class for most people. That's the situation. I feel like it's one of those things where when someone decommits I could get an offer."
