East Mississippi Community College forward Devonta Pollard has signed with Houston.
The 6-foot-8 Pollard was the Sun Herald's top-ranked Junior College basketball prospect and the 18th player to land a Division I scholarship this season. EMCC had six players land with D-I schools.
Pollard averaged 12 points and six rebounds a game last season for the Lions, who went 20-7.
"Devonta is a great athlete whose abilities will be enchanced by playing in our system," Cougars coach Kelvin Sampson said. "We're going to be a very up-tempo team and that's tailor-made for the way he plays. His strengths as a basketball player fit in well in how we want to play."
As a senior at Kemper County three years ago, Pollard earned Gatorade player of the year in Mississippi and MVP at the Mississippi-Alabama All-Star Game.
