State Sen. Brice Wiggins of Pascagoula visited Trent Lott Academy earlier this week to present a $500 check to the school.
Wiggins was awarded the money for being one of the top losers in the Paul Lacoste Sports Fit 4 Change Challenge in Jackson.
Every morning at 5 a.m., Wiggins along with other state legislators and government employees met with a trainer at the Walter Peyton Recreation and Wellness Center on the Jackson State University campus for an intense high-cardio workout and training.
By the end of the 12-week program, Wiggins lost 15 pounds and participated in the 5K run around the State Capitol.
The school will use the money for health and athletic programs at the school.
Wiggins presented the check to Trent Lott Academy Principal Elizabeth Dock, and physical education teachers Alyssa Linn and Dennis Mouchette.
This is the third check presented to the Pascagoula School District as part of the Paul Lacoste Challenge. Rep. John Read of Gautier presented a $500 check to Gautier High School last year and former representative Brandon Jones presented a $500 check to Pascagoula High School in 2011.
