Lawrence firefighters spent several hours Monday battling a fire in the frigid temperatures at the America's Best Value Inn hotel. Early reports indicated that all of the occupants of the hotel made it safely out of the building.

Pulitzer-winning investigative reporter Mike McGraw is remembered by colleagues, including one tribute coming from Guatemalan film director Luis Argueta. McGraw’s coworkers, friends and family gathered Sunday at the Kansas City Star‘s Press Pavilion for a memorial service honoring the long-time Star reporter who died of cancer on January 6.
