Several Coast law enforcement agencies and other first-responder groups have beefed up personnel in advance of Tropical Storm Ida’s arrival.

Authorities say they’re especially concerned about rising waters and low-lying areas and they’re advising motorists who see a barricade to use an alternate route.

“We are hoping everyone hunkers down and rides it out at the house,” said Pascagoula Police Chief Kenny Johnson.

Johnson said Pascagoula police will be checking out anyone who is out and about as weather conditions deteriorate.

Jackson County Sheriff Mike Byrd said his staff is already on alert for rising waters.

Police in neighboring counties have reported water covering a couple of streets in the Shoreline Park area of Bay St. Louis and on Clarke Avenue in Pass Christian.
