Shelters will open Monday afternoon in Harrison, Jackson and Hancock counties in preparation for Tropical Storm Ida, Red Cross officials announced Monday.

The West Harrison Community Center on Espy Avenue in Long Beach and the Woolmarket Community Center on Old Woolmarket Road in Biloxi both are scheduled to open at 4 p.m.

In Hancock County, Lagniappe Presbyterian Church on Demontluzin Street in Bay St. Louis opens 4 p.m.

The Gautier Community Center on Library Lane will open at 1 p.m.

The shelters are open to residents of these communities who need safe shelter from the storm.

Red Cross officials advise those going to the shelters that they should bring a three-day supply of food, water and medication. Pets, alcohol and weapons will not be allowed.

The shelters will remain open until weather conditions improve.

Emergency officials are deciding on whether to open a fourth shelter in Hancock County.

The Sun Herald updates this story as more details become available.
