BAY ST. LOUIS — St. Stanislaus wanted to start quick in its 4A South State playoff opener against Quitman at Brother Philip Memorial Stadium on Friday night.

The Rockachaws did that and more.

St. Stanislaus took a 14-0 lead before Quitman even took an offensive snap and went on to dominate the Panthers 49-21.

Along the way, St. Stanislaus improved to 10-1 for the first 10-win season in school history, and Dylan Favre continued his onslaught on Mississippi high school passing records with three-single season records.

Favre set records for single season offense yards (4,903 yards), single season touchdowns (47) and touchdowns responsible for (58).

The Rocks now travel to Columbia next week in the second round.

“It was a good win,’’ SSC coach Forrest Williams said. “Now, onto the second round.’’

St. Stanislaus took the opening kickoff and drove 89 yards in 11 plays to take a 7-0 lead on a 10-yard scoring pass from Favre to Joe Klein at the 8:37 mark of the first.

The drive saw Favre convert a third-and-17 from the Rocks 27 with a completion to Boomer Scarborough to the Panthers 38.

Less than a minute later, SSC led 14-0 when Favre scored on a 9-yard run to cap off a 46-yard scoring drive that began with the Rocks recovering an onside kick.

“I told them (players) in pregame that we will go score and after we score, we’ll kick the middle onside,’’ Williams said. “Not only will we score, but do not get excited, act like you have been there before.

“Then we go score again, I think that took the wind out of them.’’

The Panthers, however, responded with a 59-yard drive that saw DeAnthony Pickens score on a 23-yard run to cut the lead to 14-8.

Pickens, who came in with more than 1,700 rushing yards, added two more scoring runs in the first half of 20 and 12 yards.

SSC, following the first score by Pickens, quickly pushed its lead to 22-8 when Favre threw a 12-yard scoring strike to Zander Romano. Following a two-point conversion by Favre, the Rocks led 22-8 with 1:43 left in the first.

With SSC leading 22-15, Favre threw his third touchdown pass, a 57-yarder to Krisjon Wilkerson for a 28-15 with 8:37 left in the half as the Rockachaws scored on their first four possessions.

The big play in the drive saw Favre convert his second third-and-17 situation with a 38-yard pass to Klein.

Pickens closed out the scoring with a 12-yard run with 6:39 left.

The second half saw the Rocks force a pair of three and outs while holding the Panthers to one first down.

Offensively, SSC pushed a 35-21 lead to 49-21 with Favre throwing a 26-yard touchdown to Wilkerson and a 12-yarder to Romano.

“This game was won up front,’’ Favre said after throwing for 498 yards and finishing with 577 total yards. “We had a feeling that they were going to bring the house, which they did. If you blitz, someone will be open. The offensive line did a great job protecting me.

“This was a great win. As for the records, I’ll exchange them for a win any day. The only record I broke that matters was my playoff record. I was 0-for-2.”
