ROUNDUP: Hancock rallies for victory over Biloxi

Petal deals George County a critical 4-6A loss

Keagon Gillihan threw for two touchdowns and ran for another as Hancock beat Biloxi 21-17 on Friday night at Hawks Stadium.

Gillihan had 5-yard TD run for Hancock (4-6, 2-4 in Region 4-6A ). Then he hit Hunter Seymour with a 22-yard TD pass and Brian Armenta with a two-point conversion. The game-winner was a 37-yard strike to Armenta with five minutes left.

The Indians (3-7, 0-6 Region 4-6A) led 17-6 at halftime and lost their sixth straight game. Hawtin Buchanan threw for one TD and ran for another. Taylor Pontius kicked a 25-yard field goal.

@BR Body bold Lede colon:Petal 32, George County 21: Despite scoring two touchdowns from R.J. Spivery, the Rebels (7-3, 5-1) fell at Petal. Adrian Bradley also scored for George County.

East Central 21, Long Beach 20: The Bearcats (4-6, 2-4) missed a two-point conversion in the final minutes, as the Hornets held on for a Region 4-5A victory.

Hugh Burrage ran for 106 yards and scored twice for the Hornets (2-7, 2-4). Dalton Davis added a 30-yard interception return for a touchdown.

Quarterback Anthony D’Angelo threw for 249 yards and three touchdowns to lead Long Beach, still alive for a Region 4-5A playoff spot. He threw TD strikes to Miles Alexander, Ned Rushing and Dimitri Smith.

@BR Body bold Lede colon:Vancleave 42, West Harrison 0: Vancleave spanked West Harrison Friday night, as Brit Yates, Colin Bray and Brandon Smith all scored touchdowns in the first quarter. Travis Taylor scored on a 37-yard run and a 25-yard interception return as the Bulldogs led 35-0 at halftime. The Bulldogs’ final score came in the fourth quarter on a 1-yard TD run by A.J. Skinner.

Stone 37, Forest Hill 6: Darion Arrington ran for over 100 yards and scored three touchdowns as the Tomcats (5-5, 2-4 Region 3-5A) cruised to an easy victory on the road. The Tomcats broke a three-game losing streak in Region 3-5A.

West Jones, 21, Picayune 20: Hunter Estes’ extra point in overtime was the difference as the Mustangs (9-0, 6-0 Region 3-5A) remained unbeaten. Ben Stevens’ 10-yard TD pass to Devontae Barnett tied the game at 20-all. Jamal Hall scored for the Maroon Tide (6-3, 5-1) in overtime, but they missed the extra point. Hall finished with two touchdowns.

Wayne County 38, PRC 0: The War Eagles (8-2, 5-1) set up a second-place, Region 3-5A showdown against the Maroon Tide next week, blanking the Blue Devils (0-10, 0-6).

Perry Central 43, St. Patrick 14: Despite the loss to unbeaten Perry Central, St. Patrick (3-6, 2-3 Region 8-3A) earned a 3A state playoff berth. Chandler Malley and Ben Whiteside connected on touchdown plays of 70 yards and 6-yards.

Malley had almost 200 yards passing as St. Patrick travels to Philadelphia in a first-round 3A playoff game next week.

@BR Body bold Lede colon:FCAHS 28, Pass Christian 0: Isiah Jackson scored three TDs, including an 80-yard kickoff return as the Aggies (8-2, 4-2) moved into the state playoffs. They visit West Lauderdale next Friday. Pass finished 0-10, 0-6.

Jackson also caught a 10-yard TD pass from Robby Brown and a 90-yard TD pass. Chad Smith chipped in a 3-yard run.

@BR Body bold Lede colon:Greene County 16 at Poplarville 14: Greene County built a lead and held off the Hornets. A 30-yard run by Chase Bradley and George Parker’s two-point conversion gave Greene County an early 8-point lead. Poplarville closed within 8-7 on a 9-yard run by Gabriel Rhodes.

Parker’s six-yard TD run a two-point conversion by Mitchel Brown put the Wildcats up for good. Poplarville’s final score came on a 10-yard Eli Frierson pass to Garrett Deschamp in the final period.
