It’s time to beat the heat.

After a winter-hiatus, Gulf Islands Waterpark is now open for business. On weekends, that is.

“We are looking forward to a very successful season providing the very best in family entertainment on the Mississippi Gulf Coast,” Glenn Haggerty, vice president of operations, stated in a press release. “This season we are offering a lot more shade throughout the waterpark, a new and improved Spray St. Louis attraction and a new seafood menu.”

The popular waterpark, covering some 18 acres, boasts nautical-theme attractions tailored to fit the region, such as the Horn Island Blaster water roller coaster; the Waveland Wave Pool; Lazy Pearl River; the Camille Cutter family raft ride; Lil’ Pelican’s Bay kiddy area; tube slides; plus plenty of food and beverages.

In addition to more shade and spray, and new cabanas, the waterpark will screen movies on Friday evenings, beginning May 25.

Also, beginning Sunday, the waterpark will feature live music on Sunday afternoons. In addition to Friday evenings, the waterpark is currently open 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. Beginning May 19, though, Gulf Islands opens for business seven days a week.

One-day passes run $27.95 ($19.95 for those under 42-inches tall). After 3 p.m., admission is $22.95 ($14.95 for those under 42-inches tall). Prices include free parking, free life jackets and free use of inner tubes. Season passes, meanwhile, are available for $89.95 ($79.95 for those under 42-inches tall).

Gulf Islands Waterpark is located just north of I-10 in Gulfport, in the Gulfport Sportsplex. (Exit U.S. 49 north to Landon Road, and turn left at the Sportsplex entrance.)
