The story of Ocean Springs-based alt-rock act Atomship stretches back to 2001. Drummer Chad Kent, guitarist Nathan Slade, singer Derek Pardoe signed a recording contract with Wind-Up Records in 2003. Along with touring bassist Roy Williams and "fill-in" vocalist Joey Culver, the band released its debut album, "The Crash of '47" soon after.

Originally known as Watership Down, the band has recently changed their name to Atomship Down after re-joining with Pardoe on vocals. Now an independent band, work is under way on a follow-up to "The Crash of '47."
