Gulfport’s Krewe of Gemini, which began in 1969, is celebrating 49 years of family-friendly revelry.
The organization sponsors two parades each year — a daylight procession on the Saturday before Mardi Gras and a night procession on the big day.
Volunteer members host fundraisers to fund the Carnival tradition.
Fire & Ice is the theme for this year’s parades that will roll along the same routes through downtown Gulfport at 2 p.m. Feb. 10 and 5:30 p.m. Feb. 13.
The route is slightly different this year from previous years to cut out a block where construction is underway on the Gulfport Aquarium.
Look for krewe cups, doubloons, plentiful beads and about 80 units in each parade. The route for both parades is the same.
The names of this year’s royalty — King Jupiter XLVIII and Queen Leda XLVIII — remain a secret until the ball.
Reigning King Jupiter XLVIII is Joe Dazet and Reigning Queen Leda XLVIII is Dana Dazet.
