So, it’s summer time in South Mississippi. If you couldn’t already tell, it’s ridiculously hot out there. Several of our local casinos offer a break from the heat with spacious pools and spas, but the Beau Rivage’s offerings for this year are pretty rocking, for sure.
The resort’s annual Club Tiki events kicked off last week with some fantastic performances by ’80s pop sensation Tiffany and ’90s rapper Vanilla Ice. Vanilla Ice gave a surprisingly powerful performance and shocked many in attendance with how authentic and gritty his delivery was. The star of the show was, however, the venue itself.
Club Tiki’s next event takes place this Thursday with Florida-based rock act The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus. The band will perform an acoustic set during Club Tiki and will then have a Drummer vs. DJ set inside the Coast nightclub later in the evening. Red Jumpsuit Apparatus released their sophomore album, “Lonely Road,” in February.
The performance says more, perhaps, for the Beau Rivage. The band is currently firing on all cylinders and winning fans of their post-hardcore, “emo” sound that has been burning up pop radio for the last few years. It’s a great move for the Beau Rivage to capitalize on the “emo” (short for “emotional rock”) wave and a perfect companion to Club Tiki’s relaxed vibe.
Enjoying a great outdoors show is not uncommon in this area, but the Club Tiki events really offer a higher level of excitement to the events. The Club Tiki dancers, DVDJ Crush entertaining the crowds between sets with high-energy tunes and the breeze off the Mississippi Sound create an atmosphere second to none. Of course, hanging out with all the beautiful people in one of the most exclusive clubs on the Coast doesn’t hurt either.
“We’re now in our 8th season of Club Tiki and it’s evolved every year,” Beau Rivage PR Director Mary Cracchiolo said in a recent interview. “It’s special in that it’s only a few times a year. (Club Tiki) is the place to see and be seen in the summer. I think people always look forward to it. (Red Jumpsuit Apparatus) continues to grow in popularity and their star continues to rise. We’re glad to get them over here and they’ve got a strong following in the region.”
Private cabanas, beautiful dancers and exclusive access make up the other half of Club Tiki’s appeal. The season’s third and final event takes place July 16 with a $10 admission. The Fan Jam Stars Summer Encore features the return of several of the reality TV stars showcased during COAST nightclub’s Summer Fan Jam events. The party starts at 7 p.m. and will feature Mark Long and Dunbar Merril from MTV’s Real World; Kenny Santucci from MTV’s Real World/Road Rules Challenge: Fresh Meat; Ambre Lake from VH1’s Rock of Love; Memphis Garrett from CBS’ Big Brother and Jacklyn Watkins from VH1’s Tough Love.
It’s hot out there, folks. Are there better ways to spend a summer than with a thousand of your best friends, taking in good tunes in a laid back atmosphere? I don’t think so, either.
