In horse racing terms, it’s the perfect trifecta — the mixing of Christmas, big band music and rockabilly — at least that’s the bet world-renowned guitarist Brian Setzer is placing when he hits the Coast in December.
Setzer will be bringing the Brian Setzer Orchestra’s Christmas Rocks Tour to the Beau Rivage Resort & Casino for two nights, Dec. 8-9. Pre-sale tickets for fan club members go on sale Tuesday. Use the code XMASROCKS for early ticket purchases. Tickets also go on sale Tuesday at SiriusXM with the code siriussetzer2017. Tickets to the Beau shows go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday.
A founding member of the influential rock band the Stray Cats (“Rock This Town”), Setzer has spent the last 25 years leading the BSO, a mixture of his rockabilly Stray Cats roots and big band swing.
“The music I play in the big band is rock ‘n’ roll with a jazz influence,” Setzer said in a press release. “What keeps it fresh is the quality of the players in the band. Also a big part of keeping the big band fresh is the arrangements; writing the arrangement for 18-19 people is like writing a song within a song. It makes the song you might have heard many times sound new again.”
Never miss a local story.
The 19-piece BSO has been doing a Christmas tour for 14 years. The latest tour will feature songs from the album “Rockin’ Rudolph,” as well as selections from his three previous holiday albums and some BSO catalog, which includes the hit “Jump Jive An’ Wail.”
