Harrison County Supervisor Connie Rockco has withdrawn from the Biloxi mayor's race, citing her obligations as a county supervisor. Here is the text of her prepared statement.
Brenda Johnston, Biloxi city clerk, said Rockco must notify the Republican Committee before she can be considered officially withdrawn. It's not simply a matter of informing the media, Johnston said.

The statement:
It is with a strong sense of duty that I withdraw my candidacy from the Biloxi Mayoral race. I entered the race with a clear belief and vision of what could be accomplished in Biloxi if I were elected.
I had hoped as Mayor to improve infrastructure, ease the process of residential rebuilding, and create an economic stimulus business package to ensure diversification. My mission remains the same.
However, upon further reflection and evaluation, I feel that I cannot fully fulfill my duties as Supervisor given the current significant issues before us and at the same time devote the time and effort required in the short period given to a mayoral campaign.
As District 5 Supervisor, my priority is to serve all the people that I represent.
My initial decision to run was not taken lightly. While it is my sincere wish to serve the people of Biloxi and strive to make my vision of Biloxi a reality, there are too many important issues that require more of my attention than would currently allow me to run at this time.
I would like to clarify that my decision to run was based on my vision of what I hope for Biloxi. Both mayoral candidates have dedicated their lives to public service. For that, they have my utmost respect.
I wish to thank my family, friends and supporters. It was through the encouragement of those closest to me and through prayerful deliberation that I was able to make this difficult decision.
I look forward to continuing to serve the people of Harrison County.
