Not even the inconvenience of a November storm system named Ida can dampen South Mississippi’s enthusiasm for the New Orleans Saints, who improved to 8-0 for the first time in club history with a 30-20 win over the Carolina Panthers on Sunday.
The team is now poised to match the longest winning streaks in club history. Twice before — from Nov. 1 to Dec. 27, 1987 and from Dec. 23, 1990, to Oct. 20, 1991 — the Saints won nine games in a row. They can do it again Sunday when they go to St. Louis to play the 1-7 Rams.
But however they fare up there, they have already lifted the spirits of this region and their legions of fans.
They have vindicated those who kept the faith, and they have made countless believers out of others.
Geaux Saints!
