Despite its industrial might, Jackson County preserves one of the state’s great agricultural traditions: the county fair.
Because the fair has free admission, there are no accurate attendance figures. But Eddie Russell, president of the Jackson County Fair Association, said last week’s extravaganza grossed nearly $390,000. Considering the overall state of the economy, that’s remarkably close to last year’s record-setting $428,000 in revenue, and perhaps enough to make it the third most profitable fair ever.
Russell credits the fair’s success to:
o Security.
o The food at the fair — made much more enjoyable by the Jackson County Board of Supervisors’ investment in better facilities for those who cook it up and those who scarf it down.
“Everything went well,” said Russell.
If you were not part of the fun this year, then start making plans to attend in 2010.
