Brett Favre continues to answer questions that arose after a conversation with the Sun Herald regarding his retirement.
On ESPN’s Sunday Conversation, the retired Green Bay Packers quarterback admitted he probably will second-guess his decision when training camp opens, but said the decision to retire is the one he had to make at the time and the one he has to live with.
Favre brought on some speculation when he answered a question from Sun Herald sportswriter Al Jones during an interview for the newspaper’s upcoming book, “The Brett Favre Story.”
Jones asked Favre what he would do if something happened to Aaron Rogers and the Packers asked him to come out of retirement.
“I feel guilty, but that was in a conversation, that if something would happen to Aaron, what would you do?” Favre said. “But I was being honest. I second-guess my decision every day. I second-guessed it last year.
“From a team standpoint, and the way the team is, why wouldn’t I play? But that’s a decision I had to make at that time. And that’s the one I had to live with.”
Favre also said he still thinks about it and knows he will have second, third and fourth thoughts when training camp opens.
“The true test will be when football starts,” he said. “I’m not sitting here going ‘whew, mini camp coming up next week.’ I haven’t really been a part of that for a while.
“But there are no games anytime soon now. But when summer approaches and you can start smelling grass, that’s when I think my stomach …
“I’m retired, I made my decision. Not to stir the pot, but sometimes I second-guess my decision. I say to myself, ‘Are you crazy?’
“ But I am retired.”
