Gautier Elementary to be featured on 'Today' show

Gautier Elementary will be featured on Thursday's edition of NBC's 'Today' show, school officials learned today.

Gautier Elementary was chosen to be featured on 'Today's' Everyone has a Story contest.

According to the contest rules, "Today is looking for exceptional stories, with the prize being a paid trip to New York City for an original song, inspired by the winner's essay, performed by a surprise performer.

The topic is an experience that has become a part of the subject's life story. The essay has to be original, true and no more than 500 words.

Fifth-grade teacher Cynthia Vaxter, co-advisor of the National Elementary Honor Society, learned the news Monday morning as she watched the 'Today' show, which flashed her picture on screen in making the announcement.

Maury Gusta, a fourth-grade teacher, wrote the essay the was chosen by the 'Today' show.
