Investigators have no leads to identify the three young men who tried to break into a home on Wilson Boulevard, said James Griffin, a public information officer for the Gulfport Police Department.
The attempted burglary occurred around 1:50 a.m. in the 300 block of Wilson, near Klein and Dedeaux roads.
"The victim came to the window and was shot through the window," Griffin said.
The victim was shot in the upper part of his body by one of the suspects, and all three fled before police arrived.
"If anyone was awake or in the area and saw anyone who didn't belong there, we want to know," Griffin said. "If we don't catch them, they may do it again."
Given the hour and the victim's condition, police have only a limited description of the suspects, said Griffin. The victim described them as black, in their teens to early 20s and with average height and build, Griffin said.
Police believe the suspects fled on foot.
